Susan J. Sabatini, MA, LMFT, CGCS
I describe my experiences as a drive through the back roads of life. Some folks take the highway, I took the back roads. It was bumpy, sometimes scary, there were some dead ends, or so I thought and, at times, more expensive than taking the highway. Yet, I discovered the beauty of the back roads and consider it the scenic route.
My first professional career was spent in Corporate America. Then, one day… my life changed in the blink of an eye. I found myself diagnosed with an illness. Soon after, I became a caregiver. I have sat in both chairs, seeing up close and personal the emotional and physical effect on the patient, family and friends. We all bring our unique needs to the experience. After my life changed, I decided it was time for me to act upon my dream to pursue a career as a counselor. I left my corporate position, enrolled in a masters program and the rest....as they say.... is history.
My journey has enabled me to understand and accept the ups and downs that are part of the circle of life. Remember, you cannot have a good without a bad, a top without a bottom, hope without despair and happiness without sadness. The glass does not have to be half empty, it can be half full.
My private practice includes working with our Military Veterans. It is an honor to be allowed to walk with our Veterans as they process their experiences in service to our country. In addition, I had the opportunity to work as an adult grief therapist and a support group facilitator at Kindermourn, Charlotte, NC. Kindermourn is a non-profit organization providing grief counseling services for parents experiencing the loss of a child and children who have lost a parent, sibling, family member and/or friend. My experience at Kindermourn was so impactful, I decided to become a Certified Grief Counseling Specialist (CGCS).
There is life after a loss and the experience of a traumatic event. There is life after a diagnosis. There is hope. You can heal, find inspiration and live with intention again. I offer to walk with you through your journey and beyond.....
Best to you,
Susan
When you walk to the edge of all the light you have and take that first step into the darkness of the unknown, you must believe that one of two things will happen: there will be something solid for you to stand upon, or you will be taught how to fly.

We shall not cease from exploration and, at the end of all our exploring, will be to arrive where we started and know the
place for the first time.
